Passion Should Lead You to Think Big

January 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

“There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” – Nelson Mandela

Passion overflows from a person’s heart. A true passion will be hard to contain. You must express it. You may pray for it, keep thinking about it, write about it, plan it, speak to others about it, and act on it. Others will be affected or infected by it, hopefully in good ways. Trying to contain it will be difficult. It would feel like your bones burning or your chest exploding. You must express your passion or it will consume you.

The words ’small’ and ‘content’ are not fitting words to a person of passion. Talking small does not cultivate passion. It extinguishes it. Being content does not fuel passion; it fights any idea of it. There is neither beauty nor courage found in these. Talking small and being content only serves the self.

Passion makes a person think big, oftentimes bigger than him. Why? A passionate person would always want to share with the world. He cannot simply enjoy what he has for personal use. His talent, idea, product or service cannot be hidden; it must be shared to the world. And the more a passionate person shares, he learns to live life to the full.

Do you think big?

Passion is the Road to Fulfillment

January 28, 2008 · 2 Comments

“The more intensely we feel about an idea or a goal, the more assuredly the idea, buried deep in our subconscious, will direct us along the path to its fulfillment.” – Earl Nightingale

Passion is that intense feeling about something. Your mind cannot shake off the object of the passion. It captivates your thoughts and a longing for the idea or goal develops stronger and stronger. You willingly allow yourself to be captive of your passion so that one day you can conquer it by striving to fulfill it. You think of it by day and you dream of it by night.

By doing so, the object of your passion establishes a residency in your inner person. It becomes part of you. This affects your actions as well as your thoughts. But no, you are not insane, only passionate. Do not blame the people around if they think you are. People with a passion seem imbalanced but that is expected. There is a saying that no balanced person ever changed the world.

As proof that you are not insane, you can think clearly, you know what you are doing. You are in full control of yourself; however, your passion persuades you to do everything in your power to accomplish your goal. Passion will lead you to learn what you need to know to accomplish your goal. It will make you think more and more of strategies to make it happen. You wholeheartedly face the obstacles and overcome them. You make no excuses for yourself. There is fire in your eyes. You will not stop until you fulfill your goal.

Are you a passionate person?

You Have What It Takes!

“Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.” – Norman Vincent Peale

Do you believe that you have what it takes to succeed in life? You must! If you cannot believe in your very self, do not expect others to. Do not expect that you will get very far either. Your career or business will be adversely affected by your lack of confidence. The opposite is also true. You will boost your career or business if you have confidence in yourself.

Having confidence in your ability to learn and do is the first step. If you are insecure, your mind and heart focuses on the negative. That means that you will mess things up because insecurity and worry often leads to thinking and acting wrong.

If you are confident, your mind focuses on the positive. You will be able to think more clearly and you will be able to feel better. Though that is not a guarantee of success, it is surely a starting point of all your success.

How do we build self-confidence? Begin by changing your vocabulary. Remove the words “I can’t” or “I am not good enough” or “I never learn” or “I might mess this up”.

Use the following words often, “I can do it” and “I can learn that” and “This is exciting” and “I have a good feeling about this” and “I can fix that” and “I see the bright side here” and “This year is going to be a good year” and “Fantastic” and “I am the king of the world” and “I have what it takes” and more.

Do you believe in yourself?

Act with Success in Mind

January 6, 2008 · 2 Comments

“Believe and act as if it were impossible to fail.” – Charles F. Kettering

You must be sold out to your plan of action. You have given it enough thought and deliberation. Your gut agrees with the direction that you are taking. It is now time for aggressive action. When you take aggressive action make sure that your whole mind, emotions and body are focused on executing your plan. Every part of your being must be shouting success! There is no room for thoughts of failure.

Do not waste time thinking that you might fail. If your thoughts dwell on Murphy’s Law, you will fulfill Murphy’s Law, which states that things will go wrong in any given situation, if you give them a chance. There are many modern versions of it such as: if there is a chance that there will be a screw up then there will be a screw up, it won’t happen as we wish it, the chances of winning are out of reach, might as well not hope for the best than be disappointed, and more.

The human faculties are controlled by the mind. The more you think failure the more your whole being will agree with you. Simply put, you are most likely what you think about. If it is failure that permeates your mind, then you have established your fate. You may change it by thinking success. And the more you do, the more chances that your whole being will gear towards success.

But isn’t it a reality that people do fail and that what we expect do not usually happen? I must say that yes, people do fail and what we expect do not usually happen. Though we may observe these around us and in ourselves at times, our minds must still be focused on success. WHY? Because true failure only happens when we stop learning from it and stop attempting for success.

Every attempt to succeed is part of a process, both the attempts that do well and those that don’t contribute to the process of success. You learn what to do and how to do it and you also learn what not to do and how not to do it. Either way, you have progressed. That is how inventions are made: a creative idea inspires the inventor, then he formulates a theory, then he tries to build a prototype.

But the whole process is not as simple as it sounds. It may take hundreds, if not thousands of attempts to have a working model. The inspiring story of inventor Thomas Edison shows us that success may take time. It said that it took him more than two years and over 6000 experiments before he succeeded. But his mind was bent on having that working light bulb.

Like Edison, those who understand success never stop attempting with determination. Failure is none existent. They can learn from it but it can never stop them from their overall attempt to succeed.

If we are to succeed we must execute our plans with full assurance of victory. Forget about Murphy’s Law. Take aggressive action with success in mind!

Are you working with success in mind?

You Need Courage to Follow Your Course of Action

January 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

“Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires courage.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

I have heard it many times in my own life. “That won’t work!” I still followed my gut and started the business with only $1000, which I borrowed from a friend. Like any other business it had its ups and downs. But when I look back at the last four years, I am so glad that I followed my gut. I knew I could have been wrong. But I also felt that I could be right. The particular business I started now has more than 10 branches with a steady cash flow. But the money is secondary. The primary thing that drives us is the mission, “Changing Lives through Learning!”

My business, Power Memory Franchising, Inc., is not free from problems but I am happy to say that more than 15,000 people have experienced the memory improvement courses. We have produced many honor students and board/bar passers.

Expect people to say negative comments about your ideas or plan of action. But do not be moved by them. The worst comments may even come from your closest relatives or friends. Most of them really do care for you and they hate to see you fail. To give the benefit of the doubt, hear them out. They could be right or they could be wrong. But there would be some who would just be sarcastic especially those who believe that you are not capable.

There are times that you just cannot avoid hearing their comments but if your gut tells you to take a risk do not be afraid to try. In the end, you are still the most responsible for your own life. You should make your own evaluation and final decisions. Ask yourself, “What is the worst thing that can happen?” Have a realistic answer. Then ask yourself, “What is the best thing that can happen?” Have a realistic answer. You will know if it is worth it.

If you fail at the first attempt, do not worry. You never learned to swim the first time you jumped in the water. Failing then trying again until you get it is part of the process. Of course, you may hear people say those irritating words, “I told you so?” Do not be affected. Take courage. Keep working on your idea.

Do you have the courage to act on a plan even if there people throwing negative comments?
